Ripping the vineyard @BellbirdSpring to stimulate root growth http://ow.ly/i/V7od #nzwine #waiparavalley
Hello Guy – several questions come to mind – I’m sorry! How close to the vines do you rip? What effect does this have on vigour? Are the vines too vigorous? Why do you want to stimulate root growth? I’m sure I’ll think of more, but this interests me greatly…….I look forward to a long chat on all things viticultural in December. Regards, Jim
Hi Jim, Good to hear from you. The tines pass within 400mm of the vines, by breaking up the clay soil and a stoney layer at about 350-400mm down I hope to give roots access to deeper soil. So, I am trying to improve vigour on this site rather than reduce it.
